Germany vs. Curacao
Germany are going into the game as the most favorites of any team in any match in the tournament, with all of the star players at their disposal. They also have the experience of winning the tournament via Manuel Neuer and star striker Kai Havertz is sure to bag a goal or two. Curacao have already done so much to get to this point and a goal alone would be a huge celebration.
Prediction: GER 6 – 0 CUW
Germany have too much star power for Curacao to handle and will completely overrun them with very few moments to worry about.
Netherlands vs. Japan
Perhaps one of the most even affairs of any group game at this world cup, this cross-continental match is sure to be a cracker. Many key misses for Japan: Captain Wataru Endo, star player Kauro Mitoma and Takumi Minamino. However, Netherlands are missing Premier League champion Jurrien Timber who is a huge miss in defense for the Oranje. These misses will probably end up in a strange lineup and a game with more goals than some may expect to see.
Prediction: NED 2 – 3 JAP
Perhaps what I think will be the best game of the World Cup so far, but ending with a fantastic tight margin victory for the Japanese.
Ivory Coast vs. Ecuador
Two of the best defensive teams in the tournament face off in a huge game in Group E. Ivory Coast didn’t concede a single goal in qualifying, while Ecuador only conceded 5 in 18 matches against every nation in South America. Many believe Germany is the group favorite, but these two nations are hoping to prove to the world, and their nations, that they have what it takes to shake up the standings.
Prediction: CIVI 1 – 1 ECU
While some see a defensive faceoff, I see a multi-goal affair with multiple chances for the African and South American sides that ultimately ends with the spoils shared.
Sweden vs. Tunisia
Sweden back in the World Cup for some time will face now regulars Tunisia in their 3rd consecutive tournament. Sweden have many big names in attack with Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak leading the front line. Tunisia are more of a cohesive team with fewer big names, only standouts being perhaps Hannibal Mejbri and Ellyes Skhiri in midfield. It will be a great game as the two favorites in the group face off hours before and it is a huge chance for the sides to try and edge it to get an upper hand for the remainder of the Group Stage.
Prediction: SWE 2 – 1 TUN
Viktor Gyokres and company will have just enough to take all 3 points against African side Tunisia in a tight affair in Mexico.
